For the most beneficial experience, sign up for a full semester (prorated once begun). Payment plans are available. Classes meet once a week for the semester.
Can’t commit or know you have travel planned? We offer single-day sign-ups (purchase multiple classes around your dates).
Scheduling and Rescheduling
Our registration system cuts off 12 hours ahead of class and prior registration and payment are required.
Need to reschedule a class? Submit a rescheduling ticket at least 24 hours before class time ($25 fee) and we’ll book you for a new date. If you know you’ll be out of town or unavailable on certain dates, book single classes instead!
If you need to reschedule an entire semester, email us and we’ll reschedule you ($75 fee).
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Beginner Storyboarding: Graphic Novel + Illustration
Learn the art of storyboarding, essential for film, TV, commercials or graphic novel writing. This skill is the technical process of illustrating moment-to-moment action within your story. In this course, we practice drawing exercises, learn how to incorporate narrative into a story arc, employ tension, and build suspense to convey emotion and drama.
Beginner Oil Painting
Creatively Wild’s popular beginner course in oil painting is perfect for enthusiastic artists looking to get started in oils. Learn to use the materials, outline your painting, layer, and blend to create value and form. We demo a range of brushstroke applications, develop confidence in color mixing, and teach you to choose color palettes to create mood and tone.
Beginner Drawing + Illustration
Drawing is the most valuable skill in visual arts and is essential for all artistic disciplines. Our beginner’s course is invaluable for developing a strong foundation. Study classical drawing techniques for achieving accurate proportion and linear perspective. Develop an eye for line, form, and tone in still-life arrangements. Learn to create form, draw shapes and create volume and accuracy.
Figure Drawing with Model (BYO materials)
Perfect for established artists and beginners, Practice figure drawing with a live model, capturing the human body's anatomical proportions, and studying musculature and posture to sharpen your observational skills. Developing confidence takes time: put in the hours to hone your skills. This is open studio time and is a self-led class, NO instruction or materials are supplied.
Creative Well Being through Painting
Disconnect from your phone and allow yourself room to focus on your thoughts. The craft of “doing” helps us connect with our inner selves and is highly therapeutic. In this relaxing class, lose yourself in a mindful adventure, discover expressive abstract painting styles to disconnect, and let your creative side take over.
GETTING Your Comic Books Published
In this course, find out how to become a freelance storyteller and work towards getting your work published! We’ll build on skills learned in our Beginner Storyboarding class, which was less about creating finished artwork and more about practice. Create a pitch packet ready to send to a company for publishing, including a script or outline for a story, character designs, concept art, a cover or poster, and six pages of story. The class will simulate working a freelance gig with the instructor acting as the editor and giving feedback.
Editorial Illustration: FREELANCE DESIGN
If you have some drawing experience and are looking to delve into the freelancing world, this informative class will take you through the steps of creating graphics and layouts for magazines or publications. Taught by an editorial illustrator, you will be given professional assignments and learn to create original designs for your portfolio. The class will begin with physical media before moving toward digital art to learn concepts like material reading and brainstorming ideas, spot illustrations, framing devices, section headers, formatting and resizing, and more!
Painting Portraits from Photographs
Capture likenesses of your favorite people from photographs in fully realized portraits on canvas. Learn essential techniques lile sketching your subject, blocking out color and shadows, and adding highlights. Explore a range of brushwork methods for eyes, skin tones, hair, clothing, jewelry, and glasses. Capture mood and atmosphere by choosing the best color palette for your subject. Study different angles like 3/4 angles and how to employ light sources to highlight your subject in riveting compositions.
Introduction to Photoshop DESIGN
Learn the fundamentals of Photoshop and render realistic images. Develop skills in using tools (layers, masks, and filters), selection tools (marquee and lasso), painting tools (custom brushes, erasers, gradient), photo retouching tools (clone stamps, spot heals, and patch), film photography tools (dodging, burning, and sponge), transformation tools (scaling, warping, rotating, and perspective). Whether you're a total beginner or looking to refresh your skills, this class is appropriate for everyone.
Beginner Watercolor Painting
Our beginner’s guide to watercolor painting equips you with the fundamentals to work in this beautiful translucent pigment. Watercolor renders reflection and light in the most fluid and enchanting way: discover how to get the most out of this pigment with brushwork and various techniques. We will use natural (trees, fruit, flowers, seascape) and urban (streets, buildings, bridges) subject matters. Using reference photos as a guide, learn to sketch and incorporate effective composition, and learn a variety of watercolor techniques like wet-on-wet, dry-on-dry, blooming, splattering, masking, gradated, flat wash, and more.
Painting for the First Time: AcRYLICS
Haven’t picked up a paintbrush since school?
It’s never too late to learn and now is the right time to dive in. This painting class is designed to help you overcome your fears and get you started. Get the essentials in this informative course: choosing subject matter, color mixing, brushwork techniques, creating form, light, and shadow, and using color to establish tone and mood. In a short few weeks, develop confidence as you grow your skill set.
Combined Art: Painting, Drawing, Collage
Mixed media frees you up to think about creativity through another lens. Explore the possibilities of mixed media: discover non-traditional media and found object art to make unique textured works with your personal mark. In this course, we will explore working with recycled materials: magazines, colored paper, newspapers, recycled machine parts, string, fabric, and threads, and add paint, pastels, charcoal, and printed text. We welcome students to bring in their own items too: household items or personal items you have a connection to will give pieces a fresh and individual flair.
