Toddler Art Class

Art is essential for all of us, and for toddlers, it is an elementary and essential way of expressing ideas and feelings in visual form. Even if your wee one is already enrolled in preschool, she or he will benefit from the addition of professional art instruction that stimulates young minds and opens them to the fundamentals that will guide them through a life of aesthetic appreciation and skill. Our extremely popular toddler art classes are held daily in our nurturing and safe art studio environment. Your child will flourish and expand her or his horizons with our customized, original hands-on approach, which encourages and respects individual artistic freedom and helps every child thrive and come alive as she or he experiences the magical world of art. Art teaches children to embrace the many different choices when solving problems, and our classes invite children to have fun and use their imagination as they discover their own self-expression and gain confidence in their own individuality. Week by week, toddlers create awe-inspiring pieces of art that will amaze and impress each parent as much as they delight the children to create and show off. Offering far more than typical preschool programs, toddlers will learn painting, drawing, printmaking, three-dimensional creations and fun projects, while exploring exciting materials such as collage and building on multi-mixed-media exercises. This dynamic class will promote creative development and strengthen motor skills as well as social interaction.

Your child will learn fundamental drawing and cartooning skills in this exciting two-week taster class, in our nurturing studio. For anyone who wants to work in this medium, develop drawing skills, tell a story with the pencil, interpret your imagination onto the blank page. Your child will learn the basics in drawing so they can tell their own stories and develop craft through a wide variety of exercises! Cartooning is exciting and thrilling and has limitless possibilities. Perfect for children who are true beginners at drawing or who have taken some drawing instruction before but want to develop, practice and fine-tune their skills and get a basic introduction to cartooning.

Introduction to Oil Painting for Total Beginners

By learning and mastering the basics, you can create beautiful, expressive paintings with oils. This is the perfect class for absolute beginners, or for those who have dabbled in simpler forms of painting and want to explore the complexities of oil. Instruction will focus on the fundamentals: composition, or how put your picture together; color usage; shading to achieve a three-dimensional quality to give your work depth; texture to determine when to use thin or thick paint; and where two colors meet to form edges. Before oil paint was developed in early 15th century northern Europe, artists mostly used tempera, an egg-yolk-based paint. By adding linseed oil to the tempera, artists were able to create transparent and bold colors. Today’s oil paint is far more advanced, but it’s still very tricky to work with and requires proper attention to technique. Some oil paints take days to dry, and it’s essential to understand how to create and maintain the image and texture you’re striving to achieve. In this introductory class, you will create multiple oil paintings with rich, vibrant colors based on your own inspirations and subject matter, as well as still life, abstract and realist images.
